My Old layout was 8 X 4' and it was done in my office. I had done it on folding table. I had to broke it down as I relocated my office.
Then I did scenery for my friend Suhas Dixit for his layout. Please do visit his train show which he arranges at Pune in Diwali.
Now I am doing my L shape HO scale layout in my bedroom. It is a zig-zag layout and size of it is 2’ X 4’ in L shape.
Starting of this Layout:
When I decide to go ahead with layout, first hurdle was SPACE! Either we do not have it or we can not spare for our layout. With good planning and tricks we can design a good layout in our book shelf or even under our work table. Yes! Trust me. I have done one micro pizza layout in 2’ X 2’ size and I enjoy running trains on that. What is needed is good planning even from selecting rolling stock to doing bench work. Always remember Patience is a key. You may not be able to buy all items at same time but start with something. Your layout eventually starts building up. No need to start 8’ X 4’ layout from day 1. Start building in sections say 2' X 2'.
Just save one Diwali fund and you can have enough track for doing 4’ X 2’
